OSTRAVA – Summer is often associated to seaside, beaches and holidays. However, firefighters must to be prepared to face many issues which can be wildfires, floods and many others.
For this reason we are in line with Dr. Vladimir Vlcek, Ph.D. Fire chief officer of Fire Rescue Brigade of Moravian-Silesian region (FRB MSR), Ostrava Czcech Republic, and he will explain us their preparedness and their activity in the region.
In Czech Republic, the Moravian-Silesian Region Fire Brigade started working on 2001, when regions have been finally settled. The region of Ostrava is located at the North-East part of the country, near the border with Poland and Slovacchia, so that allows also cross-border operations.
The main tasks of the FRB MSR are: fire fighting, traffic accidents, technical rescue and assistance, radiation and hazardous material protection and environmental protection (NBCR danger), disaster control, rescue of humans, animals, water rescue, special rescue from the heights and depths, fire prevention, civil protection, public warning system and crisis and emergency management.
When we talk about fire protection in Czech Republic, it is arranged by laws, notices and regulations. Each municipalities have to establish voluntary fire department or have to have a contract to provide fire safety and take care of civil protection and crises management.
FRB MSR is also composed by other special units which manage specific emergency situations:
- USAR (Urban Search And Rescue)
- WASAR (WAter SAfe And Rescue)
